Delays

Delayed surgery can happen if medical providers fail to schedule surgical intervention at an appropriate time. This can happen if providers have scheduling conflicts or for other reasons. Delayed surgery can lead to serious complications, including permanent disability or death.   

Poor technique

The fact that you suffer a complication of your surgery tells us nothing about whether there was malpractice. Under Ohio law, some complications are considered malpractice, and some are not. There is a road map for nearly all surgeries, and there are fundamental rules of surgery.  Sometimes, surgeons stray far from that map or violate these fundamental rules, causing catastrophic harm.  

Incorrect operations

Sometimes, you go in for one surgery and come out with something that you did not consent to or even discuss, causing you permanent and catastrophic harm.    

Inattention to detail

There are any number of small details that must be checked before finishing an operation.  A failure to check these details can lead to anything from a retained piece of equipment to a leaking surgical site, and even a leaking artery.  These errors can cause devastating injuries and even death.  

Post-operative care

In this world where we are seen by residents, physician assistants, nurses, and nurse practitioners, communication errors and important changes in our health are more commonly missed.  Easily correctable problems can become catastrophic.
